Three years ago, I bought myself a Samsung X20 notebook – just because of its hilarious screen resolution of 1,400 by 1,050 pixels. With slightly changes in terms of RAM (up to 2GB) and a new hard disk after 2 years it was a great companion. But today, working with 2 operating systems (windows for business, ubuntu for development) is really putting pressure on the good ol’ x20.
But which notebook is best for both targets, business and software development? Macbook? Thinkpad?
Requirements:
- Linux compatible
- Big screen resultion (starting by 12xx by 1xxx)
- Solid case
- Long battery operation

I use a Dell XPS M1210. It works very well with Ubuntu Linux and with a 9 cell battery the longest runtime was about 6 hours runtime as the battery was fresh.
Thanks for the tipp, I will have a look at it, btw. impressive runtime!
I’m curious about all those notebooks with Widescreens – as a developer and writer I love XGAs because of their height… MacBook Pro 15″ only has 900px which is -150px to my current…
